Whilst the sword could embody the finer and more chivalric aspects of the medieval period the wholly utilitarian flail serves as a testament to the brutish aspects of a turbulent age. It strikes with powerful and shattering force and the nature of its flailing chains would have made it wickedly tricky and unpredictable to face. While a medieval warrior may have felt confident in fine-quality armor against many other weapons a flail such as this could simply overwhelm and batter asunder the finest of armored defenses and surely give any warrior a worrying prospect to face as its two chains and balls makes it difficult to track and counter with certainty.
This replica flail has two heads and chains which are made from forged steel and these are securely mounted and multi-riveted to a haft of hardwood. Each individual link has been welded for durability.
