This layering technique, known as lamination, offers greater resilience than a single thick plank, while keeping the weight manageable for swift maneuvers in battle. Each wooden ply is soaked to increase pliability before being pressed into the classic heater shield profile, resulting in a solid yet relatively light defensive barrier.
The front face is covered with heavy cotton fabric, a common practice in the medieval period to help bind the layers and reduce splintering from blows. Sturdy rivets secure the assembly, while the back features a wooden grip reinforced with closed-cell foam padding, wrapped in full-grain leather for comfort and durability. An adjustable forearm strap allows the wearer to maintain control and absorb shock during combat.
