Description
This dagger’s design tells a story forged in the shadows of Corsica’s rugged hills. Made for swift, silent strikes, it served those embroiled in the island’s vendetta conflicts, fierce feuds that shaped communities and demanded weapons both reliable and discreet. The grip shows the classic Mediterranean reverse taper, narrowing near the blade and widening toward the pommel, which here is baluster-shaped to fit snugly in the hand. This design helps prevent slipping during the fierce, close-quarters encounters typical of vendetta fighting. The blade is single-edged with a thickened, ridged spine that adds strength and resists bending, while the slender cutting edge was sharpened razor-thin for precise thrusts or quick slashes. Brass fittings on the handle and sheath not only hold up well against the elements but also echo the aged character of traditional Corsican arms. Though blades like this can be re-sharpened or adjusted, their shape remains faithful to the fighting style passed down through generations on the island.
Fun fact: Corsican vendetta daggers were often hidden in everyday clothing or boots, allowing warriors to carry them unnoticed until the moment of attack.
