Description

This Modern Wakizashi offers a contemporary take on the traditional short sword once carried by the Samurai. Crafted with advanced materials suited to today’s environment, it requires minimal upkeep while maintaining the functional spirit of the original design. Though it appears modest, the blade holds strength and durability beneath its surface.

The blade, measuring 19 1/2 inches, is forged from 1566 steel and differentially tempered to create a visible hamon,a hallmark of traditional Japanese swordsmithing that marks the transition between the hardened edge and the softer spine. The copper habaki (blade collar) and seppa (spacers) secure the blade within the scabbard and handle. The tsuka (handle) is built around the tang and wrapped in textured G10, a synthetic material prized for its toughness and grip, reinforced with dual pins to ensure a firm, unyielding hold. Embedded within the handle are silver menuki shaped as shi shi, or lion dogs, symbolic guardians believed to ward off evil. The black saya (scabbard) is textured for grip and accented with an olive paracord sageo cord tied around a polymer kurikata (knob) and kojiri (end cap), blending modern materials with traditional elements. This wakizashi complements a modern katana and tanto, forming a set for those interested in a contemporary warrior’s collection.

Note: The sageo cord on the saya may arrive differently wrapped than shown in images, reflecting the hand-tied nature of this component.
