This knife embodies the harsh realities faced in close-quarters fighting during the War Between the States. Forged by W. J. McElroy Swordworks in Macon, Georgia, its long, double-edged blade was shaped for both thrusting and slashing when battles closed to deadly inches. Measuring 13 inches long and 1½ inches wide, the blade offers a careful balance, long enough to keep an enemy at bay but narrow enough to allow quick, precise movements. The brass fittings lend a solid, reliable heft without making the knife cumbersome, while the carved wooden grip is fashioned to remain secure in the hand, even when slick with sweat or blood. This design served as a practical alternative to the better-known Bowie knife, prized for its ease of carry and effectiveness in hand-to-hand combat. The knife is paired with a scabbard, ensuring it could be safely carried when not in use. This reproduction was crafted by Windlass Steelcrafts and can be sharpened upon request.
