Description
This mail standard is crafted from small, flat links of mild steel. The links are dome-riveted and are alternated with solid flat rings. They were blackened for a finish. The mail has been stitched onto a base of thick leather. The standard can be adjusted to side with its two brass buckles and matching straps. Most hauberks and shirts of mail do not have good protection for the neck this is necessary to make the shirt fit over the head when donning. This lack of protection for a very important part of the body can be compensated for by simply adding a standard its mail links and thick leather backing make it very difficult to cut into. Additionally, the small, tightly-knitted links used on this standard make it harder to penetrate than larger mail links. If you helmet has no aventail, than it is a good idea to add a standard if not for the protection, than to make your armored look more complete. It could be combined with a helmet aventail for an even more heavily-armored look with double the protection.
