Description
Raise a toast to the sea with this pair of sailor’s cups, fashioned from spun brass and coated with silver plating to withstand the corrosive salt air. Each cup carries a solid copper anchor, firmly brazed onto the surface,a symbol long held by mariners as a sign of steadfastness and hope amidst the waves. Sized close to a traditional shot glass, they are well suited for a measure of rum or a nip of spirit, much as sailors have done throughout the ages. The set is housed in a sturdy hardwood box, reinforced with brass fittings that mirror the metalwork on the cups themselves. This box serves not only to protect the cups but also evokes the practical chests once found aboard ships, used to secure valuable or personal items. To maintain their finish and the developing patina, these cups should be washed by hand.
- Box measures 2-1/4″ x 2-1/4″ x 4-1/4″
- Cup height 1-7/8″
- Capacity: 1 oz
Fun fact: Captain’s cups were often personalized and stored in special boxes aboard ships, serving both as treasured keepsakes and as marks of a sailor’s rank or accomplishments during long and perilous voyages.
