Description
Our Hawksley Replica Black Powder Flasks are made to work just as the originals did, with every detail true to the period. The markings on each flask faithfully replicate those found on authentic Hawksley pieces, without any modern insignia. Polished to a bright finish, these flasks will gradually develop a natural patina through use, much like the antique powder flasks carried by shooters in the 19th century.
This flask features a sturdy brown leather body, molded over a brass frame, adorned with a traditional floral pattern embossed on both sides. The brass Hawksley removable head is fitted with a spring-loaded thumb release lever and an adjustable spout tip, allowing for precise measurement and pouring of black powder. The flask bears the original G. & J.W. Hawksley – Sheffield markings, a hallmark of quality from one of England’s well-known 19th-century manufacturers. Flasks such as this were common among all social classes during the 1800s, from the hunting estates of the nobility to the hands of rural folk who relied on firearms for hunting and protection.
Key Measurements:
- Length: 7-1/4″
- Width: 3-1/4″
Fun fact: The floral designs on Hawksley powder flasks were not only decorative but also served as a subtle way to identify the maker’s work, much like a blacksmith’s unique hammer marks on a sword or suit of armor.
