Description

Here we have a faithful reproduction of a waist belt commonly paired with the Brown Bess musket and its contemporaries. Crafted from sturdy top grain black leather, it bears the characteristic brass buckle typical of the period. The belt measures 1-3/4″ in width and is designed to accommodate waists up to 52″. True to historical practice, the belt comes without pre-punched holes; soldiers would have fashioned their own holes using an awl or similar tool to achieve a snug fit. Sewn securely into the belt is a bayonet frog, a leather loop designed to hold the bayonet scabbard close at hand during battle or on the march. Fun fact: The Brown Bess waist belt with frog was often worn on the right hip, allowing the soldier to draw the bayonet swiftly with the right hand, a practice that influenced the placement of the frog across various British infantry units.
