Description
In the days of the Vikings, we smiths and craftsmen worked with the materials the land and sea provided. Bone, often taken from the animals we hunted or bartered for, was shaped into tools and small objects of use and meaning. This whistle, carved from genuine bone, takes the form of a fish,a shape chosen not just for its ties to the sea, which was the lifeblood of Viking trade and travel, but also for its symbolic weight in our stories and beliefs. Each piece bears the unique grain and texture of the bone itself, smoothed and polished by hand to bring out its natural character. A simple leather thong is fitted so the whistle might be worn close or hung where needed. Note: Because bone is a living material shaped by nature, no two whistles share the same finish or pattern.
- Approximately 3-5/8″ long
Fun fact: Bone whistles like this were not only used to signal during hunts or battles but also played as instruments during feasts and ceremonies, filling the air with sound that echoed the call of the wild.
