Description
This large medieval spearhead is crafted specifically for boar hunting and big game. Its long, widened blade is shaped to deliver a deep, broad puncture wound, designed to stop a charging animal effectively. The two wing lugs on either side of the blade serve an important purpose: they limit how far the spearhead can penetrate, preventing it from going too deep and making it easier for the huntsman to control the weapon and safely retrieve it.
The spearhead’s length and sturdy blade edges also allow it to be used for slicing and cutting if the situation calls for it, giving the hunter a tool capable of both thrusting and slashing. This form reflects a practical balance between offensive power and control, essential when facing the dangerous and unpredictable nature of wild boar.
Fun fact: The wing lugs on a boar hunting spear were sometimes used to catch on the animal’s hide or tusks, helping the hunter hold the spear steady and prevent the beast from pushing further forward.
