Description
Back in the days of the Crusades, the Knights Templar stood as a formidable Christian military order. Clad in their iconic white mantles emblazoned with a red cross, these knights were renowned for their discipline and skill in battle. To protect themselves, they wore chainmail much like this Legendary Knights Chainmail Haubergeon with Templar Cross Large. Chainmail, or maille, is crafted from countless small metal rings interlinked to create a flexible yet resilient mesh. A haubergeon is essentially a shorter or lighter version of a full hauberk, often designed for greater mobility. This particular haubergeon features a distinctive triangular-shaped fringe along the bottom edge, a style that would have offered both protection and ease of movement.
This type of mail is not only suitable for historical reenactments and Renaissance fairs but also finds use in combat training and live-action role-playing. Each piece is carefully handmade, and the rings are treated with a light oil coating to help guard against rust and extend the life of the mail.
A Templar Knight was more than just a warrior; as Bernard de Clairvaux said around 1135, “A Templar Knight is truly a fearless knight, and secure on every side, for his soul is protected by the armor of faith, just as his body is protected by the armor of steel. He is thus doubly armed, and need fear neither demons nor men.”
Fun fact: The blackened finish on the Templar Cross Chain Haubergeon not only gives it a striking appearance but also adds a layer of corrosion resistance, a technique that echoes methods used by some medieval smiths to protect armor from the elements.
