Description
This “fishtail” Gothic dagger gained popularity in Germany during the mid to late 15th century. Its distinctive blade, widening near the hilt and tapering to a sharp point, was designed to penetrate the gaps in plate armor common on the battlefield. As warfare evolved through the Middle Ages, so did this dagger, adapting in shape and balance to meet the demands of close combat and the changing armor styles of the time.
Fun fact: The Black Knight dagger, a close relative of this style, was often carried as a secondary weapon by knights, prized for its ability to deliver swift, precise thrusts in tight quarters where larger swords were unwieldy.
