Description

Original examples of this knife are seldom found, but its straightforward design and practical function have long appealed to those who appreciate wartime craftsmanship. This Belgian commando trench knife dates back to the First World War, crafted in England for Belgian forces after their homeland was occupied by German troops. The blade is forged from high carbon steel, known for its resilience and ability to hold a sharp edge amid the rigors of combat. The handle is made from hardwood, offering a firm grip even when hands are wet or muddy, while the oval steel crossguard protects the hand during close-quarters fighting. The accompanying steel sheath is finished in a manner consistent with the period, designed to shield the blade and allow quick access. Each component carries an antique finish to evoke the worn character of the original pieces. This design is referenced in The Military Knife & Bayonet by Homer Brett, p. 60. This reproduction is crafted by Windlass Steelcrafts, with markings intentionally omitted to set it apart from the rare originals.
Fun Fact: During WWI, Belgian trench knives like this one were prized for their balance of stabbing and slashing capability, crucial in the brutal close-quarters fighting of trench warfare.
