Description
These swords, known as shinai, are crafted for the practice and competition of Kendo, serving as safer stand-ins for the traditional Japanese katana. The shinai was born from a need to lessen serious injuries among practitioners, offering a way to spar with vigor while minimizing harm. Each shinai is made from several sturdy strips of bamboo, carefully bound together to create a flexible yet resilient blade. This construction absorbs impact, making it well-suited for the demanding strikes and thrusts of Kendo training. The thick plastic guard, or tsuba, protects the hands, while a securing ring keeps the bamboo slats tightly in place.
What sets this particular set apart is the inclusion of a double back sheath, fashioned from durable polyurethane. This sheath is adjustable and designed to carry both shinai comfortably on the back, allowing the kendoka to move freely between training and travel without fuss.
