Description
Voiders are sections of mail designed to be sewn onto a gambeson or leather armor, covering the sides of the torso, the armpits, and the inner parts of the upper sleeves. These are areas often left vulnerable in battle, and voiders provide additional chainmail protection where plate armor cannot reach when worn over a gambeson.
This particular set of voiders is made from aluminum links. Half of the rings are round, riveted rings, while the other half are flat solid rings, arranged in an alternating pattern. The use of aluminum significantly reduces the weight compared to traditional steel mail, making it easier to wear for extended periods without sacrificing coverage.
While voiders are commonly paired with plate armor, they can also be worn independently over a gambeson or leather armor to enhance protection in critical areas without the bulk of full plate.
Fun fact: Aluminum Dome Riveted and Flat Rings Sets are prized for their lightweight nature, making them a popular choice for reenactors and blacksmiths seeking historical authenticity without the heavy burden of steel mail.
