Description

Train like a Gladiator, but with a space-age blade.

The hilt of this Gladius echoes the classic Roman form, fashioned from American Hickory to provide a firm yet comfortable grip. The guard and pommel are shaped from steamed Beech wood, maintaining the authentic balance and feel that ancient smiths aimed for. Instead of the sharp steel blades wielded by Roman soldiers, this training Gladius carries a blunt blade forged from tempered aircraft-grade aluminum. This choice of material offers resilience and resistance to corrosion, while the satin finish and rounded edges make it safe for practice. Aluminum “wasters” like this one swing with a weight and balance closer to real steel blades, allowing trainees to hone their swordsmanship skills without the fragility of wooden swords or the heavy impact of steel.
Fun fact: aluminum training blades were first experimented with in the 20th century to give soldiers a lightweight yet resilient alternative for safe sword practice.
