Description
The bascinet is a helmet that saw many changes over the centuries, shaped by the needs of knights and men-at-arms who wore it into battle. This particular style, known as the Hounskull bascinet, is recognized by its pointed, elongated visor that resembles the muzzle of a dog’s skull, hence the name “Hounskull.” The narrow eye slits offered greater protection for the face, while the additional ventilation holes along the visor helped the wearer breathe during the heat of combat. This miniature version is crafted from 20-gauge steel, giving it a sturdy feel despite its small size. Brass edging around the collar adds a touch of contrast, reminiscent of the decorative elements often found on period helmets. It comes mounted on a simple iron stand, making it a fitting display piece that brings a bit of medieval armor tradition into any room.
