Description
The blade is forged from high carbon steel, with a full tang that extends through the grip to ensure strength and balance in the hand. It is carefully tempered to withstand the stresses of mounted combat. A distinctive feature is the double fuller, two parallel grooves running along the blade’s length, which lightens the blade without compromising its durability. This design allowed cavalrymen to deliver swift, effective cuts while maneuvering on horseback. The hilt is constructed from solid steel bars, shaped and riveted with traditional techniques, fitted with a wooden grip wrapped in leather and bound with wire, faithfully replicating the original craftsmanship. The steel scabbard bears an antique finish, complementing the rugged, utilitarian character of the saber.
This saber is built to perform as the originals did, using the same materials and time-honored methods passed down through generations of smiths. It serves as a tangible connection to the mounted warriors of the era, embodying both the functional demands and proud heritage of the US Cavalry.
Made by Windlass Steelcrafts. Sharpening services are offered for those who wish to prepare this piece for cutting use.
