Description
A Voulge is a distinctive medieval polearm that saw use from the 14th to the 16th centuries. Unlike many polearms with blades mounted atop the shaft, the Voulge features a broad, cleaver-like blade affixed to the side of its wooden pole. This design gave it a chopping edge much like a butcher’s cleaver, but wielded with the reach and leverage of a spear. The blade on this historical replica is hand forged from high carbon steel, shaped from a single solid piece that includes a broad cutting cleaver edge and a long spear tip rising from its top. Along the blade’s spine, two socket holes are welded in place: the upper socket is fitted with a spiked end, while the lower socket includes a pre-drilled hole, allowing the blade to be securely mounted to a wooden shaft of your choosing. The blackened, rough finish on the steel evokes the look of battle-worn weapons, and the piece arrives well oiled to guard against rust. Periodic treatment with mineral oil is recommended to maintain its condition and protect the metal from corrosion.
*Note: The wooden mounting shaft is not included and can be sourced from local hardware suppliers or crafted by hand for an authentic assembly experience.
