Description
Sode no Shirayuki stands as a striking example of swordsmithing artistry within the Soul Society, known not just for its beauty but for the craftsmanship behind it. This katana is crafted with attention to detail that honors the original design seen in the famed anime. The blade is forged from 1065 high carbon steel, a choice favored by smiths for its balance of hardness and flexibility, allowing the edge to hold sharpness while resisting brittleness. The full tang construction ensures that the blade and handle are one solid piece, providing strength and durability in every swing.
The guard, or tsuba, is a steel disk anodized white to evoke the delicate pattern of a snowflake, reflecting the sword’s icy theme. The handle, about 15.5 inches long, is wrapped halfway in white rayon using the traditional Tsumami-Maki technique, which offers both a secure grip and aesthetic appeal. At the pommel, a chain dangles with a small charm and a long white ribbon, adding a personal touch reminiscent of the wielder’s spirit. The hand-painted white wooden scabbard protects the blade when not in use, accompanied by a black sleeve to guard against wear.

Fun Fact: The use of 1065 high carbon steel in katana blades is a modern adaptation inspired by traditional tamahagane steel, prized for its ability to form a distinctive hamon, the visible temper line that indicates the blade’s differential hardening.
